If you know me, I'm all about the dumplings. I'm on a lifelong search for the best dumplings. I never get tired of dumplings. I tried the Pork, Shrimp, and Cabbage Dumplings, Pork with Soup, steamed Dumplings, and the Chives, Pork, Glass Noodle, Egg, Fried Dumplings. Cabbage, Pork, and Shrimp Dumplings: my least favorite of the three we got. These boiled dumplings didn't have much flavor and I think there was too much filling for each dumpling. Pork with Soup, steamed dumpling: my second favorite. These were like the typical Xiao Long Baos except it had more filling and the soup was super flavorful. Loved this different take on steamed dumplings. Chives, Pork, Glass Noodles, Egg fried dumpling: just to note, this was PAN-FRIED. The menu just says fried which is confusing. This bigger dumpling was amazing. The outside was crispy. The inside filling was so tasty. You get three servings per order. I could easily have just eaten two plates of these babies. MUST GET! No fuss, no frills. The tea came in styrofoam cups and the chopsticks were wood. The restaurant was small and modest but the dumplings were great!
Love Luscious Dumplings! It is not knock your socks off type of place, but it has been very consistently good, especially their dumplings. I actually prefer their pork fried dumplings over Mama Lu in Monterey Park. The meat to dough ratio is perfect, bigger in size and pork filling so flavorful. I drench mine in chili oil for a more luscious and spicy result. Recently, I stopped by the other day and ordered the combo dumpling + stewed beef noodle for $8.50 which is great deal. The mild flavored broth swimming with fork tender beef, bok choy and piles of noodles, makes the perfect comfort food. Not too rich or heavy. The bowls come out really fast and piping hot. Meal comes with complimentary hot tea too. Only down side is its cash only and place is small, but good food and fair prices definitely makes up for it.
Great dumplings! What I ate: - pork pan fried dumpling: these were delicious but on the oilier side. They also came out all clumped together, and with some time the bottom ones got soggy and were not as crispy as when they first came out. But somehow I was still able to finish the plate - pork steamed dumpling: these were juicy, flavorful, with a nice not too thin or too thick wrapper. A bit of ginger and vinegar heightened the flavors Pros: - simple paper menu, so it was easy to check off what you want - Service was fast and efficient. They were great about filling up our water/tea cups - Price was right Cons: - Wait: we came in a bit after lunch. I could see how there can be a wait, but they did a great job getting people in and out - Parking lot was FULL! Since it was lunchtime, parking spaces were limited. I ended up parking on the street, but just be aware of this before you decide to meet your friends here for lunch separately. - CASH ONLY! Would I come again? yes!
Luscious Dumplings is one of the go to dumpling and noodle places in the SGV. They're known to run out of menu items so there will be diners with broken hearts on those busier days. The combos on the menus are usually the way to go so you get a taste of their noodles and their dumplings. If the dumplings you want aren't part of a combo, just ask and they might accommodate you. Even if you have any general questions, the staff is super nice so don't be shy to ask. As an underrated dish that not a lot of dumpling/noodle restaurants typically have are the chive pockets. My mom is a huge fan of their chive pockets and I would have to agree. She says it's one of the best she's ever had. Like EVER. The ingredients come together and make each bite very meaningful. The ratio of meat filling to fried dough is good. The pockets are cut in half so they can be shared. This is a must-order when I come here. Parking can get kind of tricky when there's a lot going on in that plaza. Be sure to park in the designated spots, there are a few restaurants that have claimed spots so be aware. The restaurant itself isn't huge so it might not be the best place to come in a big group unless you're very patient and/or very lucky.
